The mother of an abode claimant has bought a flat to celebrate her schoolboy son's victory in last week's court case.
The Kwai Ching and Tung Chung district manager of the Fortune Realty Company, Ada Yeung Mei-ho, said the woman bought the 475-sq-ft flat in Greenfield Garden, Tsing Yi, the day after the court ruling.
Ms Yeung said: 'The new migrant family used to live in a rented flat in Tsing Yi but as her son is going to start school now that his right of abode is confirmed, they decided they would purchase their own flat.'
The boy is among an estimated 500 mainland claimants who were granted right of abode in last week's ruling.
Ms Yeung said the mother bought the flat for $990,000, five per cent below the market price.
The agent said that with the low interest rates, the buyer needed only to pay $4,000 off the mortgage every month.
