Hard workers

Yet again we have another correspondent taking their frustrations out on domestic helpers ('Maids should only take statutory holidays', South China Morning Post, January 10).

Why is it that these people are always the ones who sign their letters 'Name and Address Supplied'? Seeing as our domestic helpers already work much longer hours than most of 'Hong Kong's workers', I think they have earned the right to have their 17 public holidays.

After all how many of the rest of 'Hong Kong's workers' get up at 6am in the morning and work through till sometimes 12 midnight?

In most countries around the world a domestic helper is a luxury only the rich can afford.

In Hong Kong we are lucky that their salaries are so low and that many people can afford to hire them.

If you can't afford to, then do what everyone else around the world has to do - look after your own children and do your own cleaning and cooking.
