A young father-of-three kissed his one-year-old son goodbye before being taken to jail yesterday for fraudulently obtaining a credit card which he used for a $6,000 spending spree.
Ivan Wong Hing-lung, 26, who was already serving a prison term for a previous offence, was sentenced at the District Court yesterday to another nine months.
Wong pleaded guilty before Judge Derek Pang Wai-cheong to one count of forgery, three of obtaining property by deception and six of procuring the making of an entry in a bank record by deception.
Judge Pang jailed Wong for one year for the present case, but ordered three months of the term to be run concurrent to his existing term. Wong was last year jailed for four years for robbery and was due to be released in August 2003.
Wong's mother yesterday brought the accused's youngest son to court. After the judge handed down the sentence and retired to his chamber, she carried the baby towards the dock and held him up to say goodbye to his father.
Last Thursday, drug trafficker Sung Chi-fung was allowed by Mr Justice Colin Jackson to touch his six-month-old son in court before beginning his eight-year prison sentence. Sung's lawyer asked for permission for the accused to hold the baby, but the Court of First Instance judge only let him touch the child's face.
