The District Court heard the 26-year-old victim came to know Li Chin-tat, 27, in April 2000 when he took a taxi driven by Li. They got acquainted and arranged to have meals together occasionally.

On the evening of May 23, Li asked his victim to repair his computer after they had dinner together.

But when they were in Li's taxi, Li suddenly demanded $286,000, saying he had just lost money on the stock market. He drove his victim to a hotel in Yau Ma Tei and took a room for them both.

Once in the room, Li told the victim to remove his clothes and then took nude pictures of him. Li threatened to distribute the photographs if the victim failed to pay the money, the court was told.

His victim eventually phoned his mother and asked her to transfer $140,000 - an amount Li agreed to accept.
