The French film Amelie From Montmartre, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, has set box-office records in its homeland and captured the imagination of the world with its message of hope. And music from the film will have a similar impact.

Rather than an 'original soundtrack', this could be called 'The Best Of Yann Tiersen' as most of the tracks have been drawn from previous Tiersen releases such as Rue Des Cascades (1997), the highly acclaimed Le Phare (1998) and last year's L'Absente. The only tracks tailor-made for the film were La Valse D'Amelie and Le Moulin.

Tiersen has a distinct instrumental style, brilliantly combining piano, violin, accordion and melodica. The tunes plucked for the film all have bright, catchy melodies and hip-swinging rhythm. It all starts with the medium tempo J'y Suis Jaimais Alle and the cheerful atmosphere continues until the piano solo, Comptine D'Un Autre Ete: L'Apres-Midi, tones things down just a little. La Valse D'Amelie, La Noyee and A Quai are beautiful pieces and work as spyglasses into Amelie's colourful world. This album will help make your day.
