Rampage survivor, 12, told of siblings' deaths
The girl who survived a murderous rampage by her father on Sunday has now been told her younger brother and sister died in the attack.
Yip Lai-kwok, 12, reacted to the news from her mother by comforting the weeping woman, her uncle said. The deaths had been kept from her while she recovered from severe injuries. The mother's brother, who gave his name as Zhou, said: 'She now knows her brother and sister are dead. She is a bright child and comforted her mum.'
Lai-kwok was seriously injured by her 49-year-old unemployed father, Yip Kit-lun, who hanged himself on Sunday morning after going berserk in his Tsz Wan Shan flat, killing his nine-year-old son, Bit-hoi, and daughter Lai-yin, 10.
The tragedy followed a recent court decision to award custody of the girls to their mother, who had been separated from her husband for three years. The custody of Bit-hoi was to be ruled on at a later date. After the ruling, Yip reportedly threatened to kill all his children.
Lai-kwok was still being treated in Queen Elizabeth Hospital's intensive care unit yesterday after doctors re-attached three fingers of her left hand.
'The index finger on her right hand cannot be re-attached. I don't know whether she can fully move the three fingers now. But her doctor said she had been making progress in her recovery,' Mr Zhou said.
