Arrogance set to confirm dirt form

Why you can trust SCMP

Arrogance has banker pedigree and he can prove the point under Douglas Whyte in the final leg of the Triple Trio at Sha Tin tomorrow. Francis Lui Kin-wai's son of British Banker won his only previous start on the dirt and, while that victory was only by a head, runner-up Jokers Wild has won since and there were several lengths back to the third placegetter. The step up to 1,800 metres should not pose any problems for Arrogance, who looks a far better prospect on the all-weather.

Mr Basketball is hard to leave out based on his consistent all-weather form and should figure in the finish again, while New Century won his last start on the all-weather over a mile and comes into this event with a postage-stamp weight after Way Leung's claim. He looks capable of further improvement and is one for the shortlist.

As for the rest, Race To Honour should appreciate the move back to the all-weather and can improve, while Luck And Fortune has drawn poorly but could make the frame. Darwin remains in good form and could fill a minor placing in what looks an open contest.

The opening leg looks most difficult in searching for a banker but Good Message should be able to fill the frame providing he can hold the form from his third place behind Halo King Prawn last time. The mile stretches his stamina limits but he is well handicapped and makes more appeal than most.

Grand Star was a bitter disappointment last time but showed enough promise on his first start to suggest he can figure in the finish. His work has picked up since his last run and a better showing is expected. Zinedine has been competing in stronger contests than he faces tomorrow and the step up to a mile is definitely in his favour. Get It Easy should appreciate the move back to Sha Tin and is worth considering, while The Rich Man can make the frame.

Whyte also appears to have a solid chance in the middle pin with Real Winner, who has been most impressive on both his career starts. The step up to 1,400 metres looks a positive move and he should get the run of the race from a good draw.
