Deliberately turning deaf ear

THE bureaucracy of banks is on the rise, as one can see from the Lai See column of July 8.

It reports that the Bank of China wants to charge 1/2 a per cent charge over a tiny cash deposit of over HK$5,000.

This kind of charge is intolerable. Charges on cash deposits are being deliberately overlooked by the Hongkong Monetary Authority and the Association of Hongkong Banks.
