1960: Nine infants - three boys and six girls, most of whom were less than a week old - were found abandoned in December, according to a report by the Director of Social Welfare.

1964: The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation announced its profit for the year ending December 31, 1963, was $47.7 million.

1969: American actor Pat O'Brien arrived from Taipei for a nightclub performance. He was best known for his film roles opposite James Cagney, usually playing a priest or an American football coach.

1971: Sir Tsin-nin Chau died in Hong Kong Sanitarium after a lengthy illness. He was 79. A lawyer, he made his name in banking, insurance and public utilities before he served on the Urban, Legislative and Executive Councils.
