A taskforce will be set up under the Logistics Development Council to examine how infrastructure development should proceed.

The taskforce will study all proposed road and rail projects, including the controversial Route 10 plan, a source close to the council said.

The first meeting to discuss the taskforce last week was attended by 41 council members, with discussion focusing on Route 10, the 12.8km $22 billion road linking North Lantau to the New Territories.

Last Wednesday, Transport Secretary Nicholas Ng Wing-fui told the Legislative Council the Government would seek opinions on Route 10 from the Logistics Development Council, an official advisory body.

'The Route 10 issue was hotly debated by the taskforce as many are concerned whether the current proposal would bring any benefit to logistics development,' the source said.

'There is understanding that the road is not only for logistics but, at the same time, it is believed that the trade should have a say.
