Common problems affecting young people include exam pressure, family relationships and general adolescent problems such as low self-esteem, boredom and anti-social tendencies.

But what are the causes of these problems? The tendency to have one-child families is increasing because of parents' work pressure and also because a one-child family is easier to manage.

Lack of communication can erode family relationships and frequent quarrels build pressure.

An only child does not have to compete with siblings and may never learn respect for others. The 'little emperors' seldom consider others' feelings.

A good relationship with neighbours could help. Playing with other children helps teach respect and social skills.
