PLA soldiers stand guard in Tiananmen Square, Beijing. A Web site set up last August to help former soldiers find jobs is facing financial difficulties.
The 8181.com.cn site has helped more than 400 ex-servicemen find new jobs, according to former soldier Chen Zhongli, who helped found it.
The site was established by a group of demobilised soldiers in Guangdong. The numbers in the address, 8181, stand for August 1, National Soldiers' Day in China.
After an injection of about one million yuan (HK$955,000) by the founders, the site failed to find a new source of income.
'Recently, we started collecting a service fee of between 40 yuan and 60 yuan from each former soldier in the hope of generating revenues. However, the number of demobilised soldiers asking for services dropped drastically since then,' Mr Chen said.
'When we provided free services, more than 200 former soldiers asked to post their personal data on the site every day.'
