VISITING Guangdong athletes continued to outclass the opposition on the final evening of the Hongkong Youth Athletic Invitational meeting at Wan Chai Sports Ground.
Local athletics officials confirmed that the powerful Guangdong squad was not a youth outfit but in fact the provincial team selected to compete in the seventh China National Games to be held in Beijing in September.
Guangdong were within their rights to send such a strong squad as the meeting, despite carrying a youth title, was open to senior competitors.
The provincial squad emulated their feat of Thursday by setting two Hongkong all-comers' records.
In the men's 400 metres hurdles Shen Yi clocked an impressive 52.33 seconds to better the 52.90 set by Gao Yongdong, also from Guangdong, in 1989.
Shen cruised home 50 metres ahead of the field with local runner Wong Kai-tung second in 59.66.
