Corporatisation of RTHK was put back on the agenda yesterday, when Director of Broadcasting Chu Pui-hing said more debate should be conducted on the issue. Despite the Government's insistence that there were no plans at present to turn the radio station into a BBC-style entity, Mr Chu said it was time to discuss the issue in a rational and in-depth manner. 'The proposal has been a suggestion for nearly two decades. It is time to see whether it is the right time [to look at the issue again],' he said after the annual RTHK Chinese New Year Greeting. He said he expected the move would involve lengthy discussions with the Government and the general public. Mr Chu's comments came after he said last October that there were no plans to revive the issue of corporatisation 'in the foreseeable future'. Secretary for Information Technology and Broadcasting Carrie Yau Tsang Ka-lai said the role of the government-funded station remained unchanged.
