Tung Chee-hwa is to be interviewed by quiz show host Ken Chan Kai-tai today for a two-part documentary that producers say will show the 'soft side' of the Chief Executive.

The interview by the host of ATV's popular quiz show Who Wants To Be a Millionaire is the latest move by Mr Tung's campaign team to improve his image and portray him as a caring leader.

The programme - When Ken Chan meets Tung Chee-hwa - will be broadcast on Monday and Tuesday night on ATV's Chinese channel.

ATV said the interview would focus on areas outside the political arena, with topics ranging from the Chief Executive's family, his childhood, his school days and his attitude towards life.

A spokesman for Mr Tung's Election Office said the programme was aimed at 'enhancing public understanding' of the Chief Executive. Neither the Election Office nor ATV would say who initiated the show.

Ivan Choy Chi-keung, a social studies lecturer at City University, said he believed Mr Tung was following the example of Secretary for Security Regina Ip Lau Suk-yee, who appeared in another ATV soft-focus talk show, Hong Kong My Love, earlier this month talking about her youth.
