Students and alumni of one of Hong Kong's top aided schools, La Salle College in Kowloon Tong, were in a jubilant mood following their success in banding together for the world's biggest hug.
Representing the year the school was founded, 1,932 Lasallian students, parents, old boys, teachers and the Brothers were pulled in to give a message of togetherness and unity.
The get-together was held on the school's Open Day earlier this month in celebration of its 70th anniversary and the 150th anniversary of the De La Salle Brothers' arrival in Asia. The Catholic non-clerical male congregation was founded in 1682 by French priest and scholar John Baptist De La Salle, later canonised for his dedication to educating the poor. The congregation now teaches over 750,000 students worldwide.
The previous world hugging record was set last year by 1,802 staff and students at St Pius School, Ontario, Canada.
