Lai Wing-cheung, 60, had both legs broken. Firefighters had to rescue him after he was pinned to the wall outside a Tsz Wan Shan school by the Mercedes-Benz.

Doctors at Queen Elizabeth Hospital carried out surgery on his legs.

The driver, Yip Chau-chung, 40, his wife and their two daughters, aged 10 and 13, were also injured in the accident.

Police said Mr Yip developed cramp when his car was stationary at traffic lights at the junction of Yuk Wah Street and Tsz Wan Shan Road just before 2pm.

The car mounted the pavement after knocking over a railing, knocked down Mr Lai and sandwiched him between the vehicle and the school wall, police said.

Mr Yip's wife, Cheung Lai-wing, 35, told officers that her husband had been unwell yesterday and they were on their way home after consulting a doctor, who gave him an injection.
