China Minsheng Bank, the country's only private bank, has become the latest mainland lender to reveal it is investigating officials for fraud.
China Minsheng is one of the nation's three listed banks and has the reputation of being better run than most.
Yesterday, the bank accused a former loan officer of defrauding it of 108 million yuan (about HK$101.21 million) in the latest scandal to hit the sector.
Last month, state-run Bank of China came under the spotlight after allegations former governor Wang Xuebing had approved suspicious loans during his tenure there.
That incident has already led to the largest banking fine in United States history and the sacking of Mr Wang from his post at the helm of China Construction Bank, where he moved after working at the Bank of China.
Mr Wang had been in charge of the Bank of China's US operations and later headed the overall operations of the mainland's top foreign-exchange bank.
China Minsheng said the problem was uncovered at its Shanghai branch in September and an investigation was under way in an attempt to recover the funds.
