The athletic meet of Chan Shu Kui Memorial School opened with the rhythmic beat of the school brass band and ended on a strong festive note with a dragon and lion dance.

The school's athletic meet was held before Lunar New Year at Sham Shui Po Sports Ground. During two days of competition, the previous records in two field events and one track event were broken.

The highlights of the day on the theme of Chinese culture were the acrobatic performance of two dancing lions and five dancing dragons and a mass synchronised exercise.

One of the guests-of-honour was Benny Cheung Wai-leung, a two-time winner of the fencing event at the Para-Olympics, and one of the World's Outstanding Young Persons of the Year in 1998. In his speech, Cheung advised students not to give in to defeat and encouraged them to be optimistic, aggressive and positive in their outlook on life.
