Marsannay Les Langerois Bruno Clair 1990 BURGUNDY is becoming less and less the land of the negociant.

In former times negociants bought young wine in the barrel from the growers and blended it with other wines from the same area to achieve a marketable standard product which could be lawfully sold under the name of the area from which it came.

This was a sensible approach given that Burgundy is made up of thousands of tiny holdings.

But many Burgundaian wine growers are now finishing and bottling their own wines and selling them under their own label.

A buyer of an estate-bottled burgundy has the great advantage of knowing it comes from a single producer prepared to put his own name to his product.

Remy Fine Wines is importing more such wines.

This week's wine is a Marsannay from Bruno Clair, who proudly places his name on his product.
