CK cosmetics: Calvin Klein, renowned for its make-up minimalism, has just launched its spring/summer cosmetic collection in Hong Kong. Three limited-edition liquid eyeshadows in musk rose, sahara and earth (read: varying shades of purple; $120 each) look off-puttingly dark in the tubes but when applied sparingly over the eyelid, give a light stain. Their matt, suede-like finish balances two high shine, limited-edition lip colours ($140). For a natural flush to cheeks, go for the translucent rosebud blush ($210), which looks best when applied over CK's new oil-free, light-cover foundation with sun-protection factor eight ($250). All available from Seibu Pacific Place, Admiralty.

Olive-skin complexion: If you think olive oil is only used in cooking, think again. The good people at L'Occitane have decided that the fruit's antioxidant properties can be as beneficial when applied topically to hair and skin as it is when ingested. Working with the Chateau D'Estoublon in Provence, which meets the strict standards needed to obtain the annual Appellation De Origin Controlee (AOC) quality guarantee, the company has added three facial products and one for hair-care to its existing Olive Harvest bath and body range. Daily Face Cream ($175/50ml) softens, tones, moisturises and rejuvenates skin; the clay-like Face Scrub Mud ($175/100ml) is a double-action product containing crushed olive kernels for exfoliation and olive oil for softening; and Face Cleansing Oil ($150/125/ml) to cleanse and moisturise. The Hair Care Oil ($150/125ml) combines olive, grapeseed and jojoba oils with wheatgerm to give shine and radiance to all hair types; it is particularly good if applied before swimming as a protective mask.

And don't worry about slathering a salad-dressing equivalent on to your face. Although the Face Cleansing and Hair Care Oils look suspiciously like something you'd rather see on the dining table than in the bathroom, all products are surprisingly non-greasy and easily absorbed, with a wonderful fresh Mediterranean smell. Available from shop B62, The Landmark, Central, and shop UG15, Festival Walk, Kowloon Tong.

Help the ageing: A relatively recent newcomer to the skin-care market, French brand Caudalie has just launched its three-product-strong Vinolift series in Hong Kong to combat ageing. The formula of the complementary serum ($480/30ml), day fluid ($390/30ml) and night cream ($390/30ml) is based on the health benefits of grapes. The products contain the powerful plant molecule Resveratrol, a natural defence against harmful free radicals, used here for the first time in skin cosmetics, and an ingredient called Vinolevure, which apparently activates the restorative capabilities of skin cells that deteriorate with age. Including other ingredients such as ginseng and shea butter, the trio protects, nourishes and strengthens skin and - thanks to the inclusion of gold micro-particles that are invisible to the naked eye - gives your face an instant healthy glow. The products are delicately scented with the lovely fleur de vigne, which flowers only for several days a year and signals the onset of the grape harvest. Available from Joyce Beauty.

Looks for locks: Get the wind in your hair this spring, says Vidal Sassoon, which recently launched its 'Look of the Season'. The Quiet Storm collection of cuts - each style is named after a type of wind including Typhoon, Scirocco and Mistral (above) - is inspired by the way hair moves in the breeze. Contrasting with last season's angular styles, looks for locks are now soft and textured with sexy, long feathered fringes and graduated silhouettes. The cuts are designed to look as if they are six weeks old.
