Reports coming in suggest the Mongolians are about to strike 'Black Gold'.

Scott Price, of Coca-Cola China, said drilling already had started, so it may not be long before diminutive Mongolians are strutting through the streets of Ulan Bator in ten-gallon hats and cowboy boots.

Mr Price is director and region manager Hong Kong, Macau and Mongolia for the Swire Pacific-run bottling operation.

In June, the company will open a Mongolian bottling plant - the first Western beverage plant to take root in the dusty region.

The operation is 100 per cent locally owned and Coca-Cola will supply the technical know-how, marketing and the soft-drink's secret recipe. When asked where the water will come from to dilute the secret recipe, Mr Price said they would drill for it.

'Mongolia has lots of underground water,' he said.
