Witchblade
Pearl, 10.35pm
For those of you who haven't caught up with this series yet, Sara Pezzini (Yancy Butler, above) is a New York detective who stumbled upon an arcane weapon known as the witchblade. This is an intelligent, symbiotic weapon of incredible power, a living gauntlet that becomes one with its wielder. The enchanted armoured glove once used by Joan of Arc deflects bullets, extends into bladed weapons, produces visions and neatly compacts itself into a bracelet, so it sounds like a handy thing to have about you on the mean streets of New York.
In this episode, Sara and her partner Jake McCartey (David Chokachi) are assigned to investigate the murder of a woman - an apparent victim of a ritual sacrifice. Their investigation leads them to Brian, an overzealous security guard, and Iona, a woman who knew the victim. At the crime scene, strange writings are discovered and identified as Gaelic runes.
Later, Sara attends a performance of a sexy Irish folk singer named Conchobar. Sara and Conchobar are immediately attracted to each other and she recognises the symbol on his drum as one of the markings at the murder site. Sara questions the musician, who appears to be writing a song prophesising the killings, another murder occurs and the
evidence seems to be pointing to her new love interest as the culprit.
