I WANT to take this opportunity to clarify a few doubts raised by Frankie Chu (July 13, Technology Post ) regarding the launching of OS/2 2.1 in Hongkong. Availability of the OS/2 2.1 was announced in Hongkong on July 5, about three weeks after the general availability date in the United States. While we recognise there was a time lag between the US announcement and local announcement, our objective in the announcement date was aimed at general availability in the territory and, for that particular instance, a promotion campaign. OS/2 2.1 is now available at any one of the retail outlets of the 18 IBM selected product dealers, or customers can buy from any one of the 14 IBM authorised dealers. We are now offering OS/2 2.1 at a promotional price of $624 for customers who upgrade their previous version of OS/2 or DOS. (The 3.5-inch diskette version, 5.25-inch diskette version or compact disc read-only memory versions are available.) This offer will be valid until September 30. The list price of OS/2 2.1 is $2,138. OS/2 2.1 was first released to users in Hongkong last April in a beta code format. Users could download the beta code free of charge through a communication line from the local IBM OS/2 Bulletin Board Services (BBS) by dialling 537-8812. With a dial-up modem, users can gain access to the OS/2 BBS whereby they can obtain the latest information on OS/2. To help customers know more about OS/2 2.1, we will be hosting seminars at the Hongkong Convention and Exhibition Centre on August 10, and details will be announced in press advertisements later in the month. Regarding Mr Chu's queries about the announcement of OS/2 2.1 in Hongkong, we have responded to him accordingly and addressed his concerns. We regret any inconvenience that might have been caused to Mr Chu and we want to assure him, and all other OS/2 users, that we are committed to making OS/2 2.1 a success in Hongkong and we look forward to their continuing support.
