Antony Leung Kam-chung was overwhelmed by well-wishers congratulating him on his romance with Olympic gold medallist Fu Mingxia yesterday - but reaction from the mainland was more negative. Some mainlanders said they were upset that Ms Fu had chosen a Hong Kong boyfriend. The 50-year-old Financial Secretary, who spoke on Saturday of his love for the 23-year-old four-time Olympic diving champion, was the target of good-natured ribbing about his love life when he officiated at a carnival on workplace safety in Kowloon Park yesterday. Ken Chan Kai-tai, host of TV quiz show Who Wants To Be a Millionaire, took to the stage at the event and serenaded Mr Leung with a love song. Mr Leung responded by standing up and waving to the applauding audience. Although Mr Leung shied away from questions about the relationship - which was splashed across newspaper front pages yesterday - he could not hide his embarrassed pleasure when one of the comperes teased him by likening yesterday's rain to splashes from a diving pool. The co-host also joked that it was a pity the Kowloon Park swimming pool had no diving facilities. Mr Leung laughed off questions about the relationship, including whether they planned to have children. However, mainland Internet chatrooms featured many negative remarks about the romance. Some were annoyed that Ms Fu had chosen a Hong Kong bachelor, despite having legions of mainland admirers. 'I really don't want my idol to stay with those kinds of people. She should marry someone in China [on the mainland],' one user wrote on the sina.com Web site.
