In my letter to these columns on February 14, I urged banks to offer more fixed-rate mortgage products. So far, not one bank has replied. It is now abundantly clear that the US economy is on the rebound and that interest rates there and in Hong Kong are likely to rise later this year. I would again like to ask representatives from the various SAR banks if they are in a position to offer fixed-rate mortgages to people, something they were encouraged to do by the head of the Monetary Authority, Joseph Yam.
