Officers last night arrested three men, including the suspected mastermind, and seized a loaded pistol, explosives, detonators and a remote control. Other gang members were still being sought, said Detective Senior Superintendent Ip Wai-keung of Kowloon West Regional Crime Unit.

Superintendent Ip said police learned about a week ago that the gang was planning a robbery.

Officers on surveillance spotted a car used by the gang last night and followed it to Arran Street, where three men got out and entered a building in nearby Shanghai Street. Police intercepted the men and a struggle ensued before they were finally caught.

The arrested men, aged between 37 and 42, were last night being detained at Kowloon Police Headquarters.
