Leadtone, a Hong Kong-based wireless services company, will team up with mainland handset manufacturer Amoisonic to bring Amoisonic-branded handsets to Hong Kong and place Leadtone's e-mail technology on the phones for the mainland market.

Leadtone last month introduced software for an e-mail service called Push Email and said it had been testing the technology with providers.

Amoisonic previously did original equipment manufacturing for makers of cordless phones and consumer electronics.

The company, listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, has recently begun introducing its own branded devices, including DVD players and the A8 model mobile phone, which it has shipped 200,000 units since its launch on December 15.

Leadtone plans to retail the global system for mobile communications (GSM)-enabled A8 in Hong Kong for about HK$3,700.

Another model planned for the general packet radio services market will be introduced in May at between HK$2,000 and HK$3,000.

In Hong Kong and China, foreign brands such as Nokia, Motorola and Samsung dominate the markets, though the mainland has a large number of domestic handset makers.
