A scheme under which taxi passengers can claim entertainment and meal discounts with fare receipts is to be changed to make it more appealing.
From May 1, the names of discount providers will no longer be printed on the back of receipts. They will only carry the address of a Web site, www.taxi-coupon.com, with details of all discounts available.
About 80 business operators, mainly in the catering and retail sectors, will take part initially. Some plan to go as far as giving full refunds on fares.

About 14,000 of the 18,000 taxis are expected to join the revised scheme.
The Taxi Associations' Federation said yesterday there had been a poor response to the initial scheme, introduced last October, as it had several flaws.

Each receipt limits the user to one particular discount. Many coupons are out of date and it takes weeks for coupons of new discount providers to appear.
