University of HK tops rankings in tertiary poll
The University of Hong Kong has been named the SAR's top tertiary institution in an Internet survey, followed by the Chinese University and the University of Science and Technology.
The Institute of Education was ranked last of the eight tertiary institutions with 19.38 marks, while University of Science and Technology professor Paul Chu Ching-wu was rated the best university head.
The survey applied five criteria - research performance, public exam results, graduates' performance, contribution of faculties to the community and public ranking of local universities.
The public ranking was based on a poll at the end of February in which 1,029 respondents were interviewed by pollsters from the University of Hong Kong public opinion programme.
The University of Hong Kong ranked first in all categories except research performance, in which Chinese University was rated best. Of the 184 employers interviewed, 24 per cent said University of Hong Kong students were their most preferred graduates. Chinese University students came second with 18.7 per cent.
