A SINGAPOREAN, Mr See Chuan Kheng (South China Morning Post, July 7), has certainly met with an irate response from two Hongkong correspondents, Mr Edwin Pun and Mr Peter Chan (Post, July 13).
We Singaporeans are fortunate that we gained our independence some time ago and through diligence and perseverance the country has created the prosperity and quality of life that others talk about.
This was made possible through the tenacity and vision of our then Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew.
He steered Singapore out of the doldrums and away from the communists who were trying to infiltrate society.
However, Mr Pun and Mr Chan must not judge Singaporeans on the basis of one letter.
In general, we are friendly people. As a friendly neighbour, we are sympathetic to the dilemmas facing Hongkong.
