Runway envy could be the order of the day at the third ACI-Pacific Small Airports Seminar 2002 to be held on the Cook Islands in the middle of June.
The list of speakers reads like a Who's Who of exotic island resorts as delegates gather to argue: 'My runway's bigger than yours.'
Highlights include Ken Stevens, chairman of Glidepath discussing 'Factors to Consider When Selecting a New Baggage System' and Fane Kamikamica, manager business development at Airports Fiji, discussing the controversial topic of 'Taxi Space'.
Security is another hot issue and Lai See hopes there will be a representative there from Caticlan Airport in the Philippines where security consists of a sign asking passengers to 'Please Put Your Firearm in the Box'.
We tried to contact an ACI (Airports Council International) representative to ask if we could pop down to the exotic island paradise (head east from Sydney and turn right at Samoa) to start a debate on 'Baggage Trolley Brake Handles - Pull or Release to Stop?' but we couldn't find one.
We were concerned that we would not be welcome considering Hong Kong International Airport could make us eligible for the Big Airports Seminar which would probably be held somewhere like Luton in England.
