Warmer Sino-Turkish ties urged

Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan yesterday met his Turkish counterpart and discussed a wide range of issues, from the Middle East crisis to bilateral co-opera tion, Xinhua reported.

Mr Tang, accompanying Premier Zhu Rongji on a four-day official visit, met Turkish Foreign Minister Ismail Cem in Istanbul, Xinhua said.

Mr Tang expressed hope that Sino-Turkish ties could be strengthened.

The minister also told his Turkish host that China was optimistic about finding a solution to end the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.

The Chinese delegation arrived in Turkey on Monday. Xinhua reported earlier that a key objective of the visit was to boost economic ties between China and Turkey.

Mr Zhu said earlier he was keen to see increased trade and business between the two countries.
