Traders can collect
1-MIN READ1-MIN
I refer to the letter from Mark Deamer headlined 'Obsolete laptop' (South China Morning Post, April 16).
Old computers that are still functional and have a certain second-hand market value are collected by traders and recyclers for use either locally or overseas.
But if the computers are totally obsolete and have no second-hand value, they are often collected for recovery of usable parts before selling as scrap. There are also charity organisations and green groups running small-scale recovery schemes to donate old computers to those in need of them.

The Environmental Protection Department has compiled a list of traders and organisations which collect old computers. The list is available in our Web site (www.info.gov.hk/epd/english/ environmentinhk/waste/probsolu
tions/wrfpoutlets.html). Mr Deamer may also call our recycling helpline (27552750) if he needs more specific advice on possible outlets for his obsolete laptop.
