OVER the past few weeks, Mothership, has garnered a reputation as being one of the most infectious live dance-bands to evolve in Hongkong. And this Thursday they're back at Radio Free Hongkong for more hard-core funk.
The 10-piece outfit includes a percussionist, flautist, two talented and extremely cute back-up singers and virtually no, if any, ego-tripping guitar solos.
The music? Well, it could be described as neo-hardcore-psychedelic-funk but the best word to describe this band is - original.
Nobody sounds like them and probably nothing will. And thanks to RFHK, the band has found the ideal outlet for their airy, experimental, sound.
You can catch them, along with Martin Dowds and The PNS from 9.30pm, Thursday, at RFHK in Westworld, The New World Harbour View Hotel, Wan Chai. Admission is free.
Tonight: A double bill at the Wanch. Those schizophrenic lawyers (who actually think they're musicians), The PNS, will be bringing their crazy brand of original music. Joining them are Sisters of Sharon. It all kicks off at 10pm. Expect the weird and wonderful;William Tang and the lads from The Wail have been heading in a new pop direction recently, and this, combined with their blues and R & B standards, go together to make a dynamite new set. Catch them at Amoeba from 10pm.
Tomorrow: The Rock Gang will be cranking up the volume for some pile-driving hard rock and heavy metal at Amoeba, from 10pm; following a short break from AWOL, Phil ''Feathers'' Ashby will be back behind the skins with the veteran rockaholics at The Wanch. Expect a wild ride of classic rock and metal from 10pm.
