Taiwan has shown little sincerity in reopening dialogue with the mainland, a semi-official body in charge of Taiwan affairs said yesterday. Recent statements by Taiwan officials 'have shown that although they paid lip service to underscore their 'sincerity and goodwill' in 'engaging in peaceful dialogue', it was pure deception,' Xinhua yesterday quoted from an article published by the research department of the Association for Relations Across Taiwan Strait. Taiwan officials recently expressed Taipei's readiness to discuss the so-called 1992 consensus with the mainland. The consensus refers to a series of despatches between the two sides that Beijing insists showed Taipei accepted the 'one China' principle. However, Taiwan officials maintain they merely agreed both sides had different interpretations of the principle.
