LEGISLATORS were generally lazier in the legislative year which ended this week, reflected in a lower rate of attendance at the weekly sessions compared with last year.
The 18 directly-elected legislators, however, remained the most diligent group attaining a high rate of attendance of 96.4 per cent, which meant they on average missed 1.22 sittings throughout the whole session.
The 19 legislators (excluding newly-elected James Tien Pei-chun) returned from functional constituencies turned out to be the laziest group with an attendance rate of just above 90 per cent (90.7 per cent).
The remaining 16 appointed legislators (Anna Wu Hung-yuk was not counted) returned with an attendance of 91.5 per cent.
Among the non-official legislators, appointee Marvin Cheung Kin-tung topped the absence list this year, missing 11 of the 34 sittings.
Mr Cheung was also the first runner-up on the absentee list last year, which saw the then legislator Professor Felice Lieh-mak top the list in her only year in the Legislative Council.
Mr Cheung, a KPMG Peat Marwick partner was closely followed by Heung Yee Kuk chairman Lau Wong-fat who returned with an absence tally of 10 sittings.
