Hewlett-Packard (HP) has embarked on a pan-Asian campaign to pull in more business for its networked storage systems with a new technology that matches up devices from different vendors.

Company officials said they were looking to get large enterprises in the region to standardise on the company's new line of StorageApps-brand products during the next 12 to 18 months.

HP expected Asian demand to be led by Greater China, South Korea and Australia, where financial services providers, telecommunications companies, manufacturing enterprises and government agencies would be targeted for StorageApps appliances.

Li Qing Qiao, HP's storage area network solution marketing manager for Asia-Pacific, claimed the company was the first major storage hardware vendor to release a storage appliance that enabled enterprises to easily implement and manage storage networks.

'This technology enables customers to pool, mix and match storage devices from different vendors, easily add capacity and readily move data across different computer servers, independent of server operating systems or network infrastructure,' he said.

The StorageApps v3000 appliance line was expected to attract most budget-constrained Asian companies because it allowed them to choose the best storage technology for their needs and had more flexibility to scale their networks based on the unpredictable storage demands of their businesses.
