LEGISLATORS' interest in social issues has not dwindled despite the fact that constitutional matters dominated the agenda in the 1992-93 legislative session.

A total of 612 questions, both oral and written, were raised during the year with 103 of them put to the Secretary for Planning, Environment and Lands, Tony Eason.

Mr Eason's turf covers housing, water pollution, safety in the countryside and even overhanging signboards.

Second in popularity was Secretary for Security, Alistair Asprey, with 96 questions, reflecting members' interest in law and order issues such as Vietnamese boat people, police and public order as well as immigration.

Education was another area which attracted members' interest with the Secretary for Education and Manpower, Michael Leung Man-kin, coming in third place with 85 questions.

Medical and welfare issues were another key matter of concern with the Secretary for Health and Welfare, Elizabeth Wong Chien Chi-lien, getting 66 questions.
