I refer to the two letters (Sunday Morning Post, April 28) responding to Tony and Maggie Stevens' letter (Sunday Morning Post, April 21) about the killings at the Jenin refugee camp.
Your two correspondents speak as if they had been there on a fact-finding mission. The UN was not allowed into the camp and as the South China Morning Post reported on Friday, UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan called off the investigation 'after the Israeli cabinet blocked the mission'.
Which nation on earth could so flagrantly disregard international opinion as the Israelis are doing now? The US, the world policeman, is going about its own agenda on the pretext of finding 'a peaceful resolution to the conflict' and the UN looks more toothless than ever before. Contrary to what your two correspondents claim, the images one saw on television and in newspapers suggest a systematic and brutal destruction of the camp by the so-called 'educated' soldiers of the Israeli army. Booby traps and suicide bombers have unfortunately become the answer to superior killing machines.
Tony and Maggie Stevens were simply stating the truth like everyone who is sincere about living in a more peaceful world.
