A former priest at the centre of the child sex abuse row engulfing the Catholic Church in Hong Kong was arrested last night for allegedly assaulting a 15-year-old boy 11 years ago.
Detectives picked up the 42-year-old man, who is now an insurance agent, at his home in Western as the scandal deepened with two more complaints of abuse emerging.
He was questioned into the early hours of this morning at Sau Mau Ping police station.
The man, who was a trainee priest at St Joseph's Church in Kowloon Bay in 1991, allegedly assaulted the 15-year-old - identified only as Ah Lim - at the connected St Joseph's Boys School.
Ah Lim made a complaint to the police in 1999 but officers dropped the investigation after finding there was not enough evidence to proceed.
Last night the Chancellor of the Hong Kong Diocese, Father Lawrence Lee Len, praised the swift action taken by the police.
