Peninsula sets high for Rollers

HONGKONG'S Peninsula Hotel has placed a $26 million order for nine new Rolls-Royce cars - the largest single retail order in the world.

The Kowloon hotel already has the world's largest hotel fleet of Rolls-Royce courtesy vehicles.

Its nine new Rolls-Royce Silver Spurs are due for delivery late this year in preparation for the opening in the next year of the Peninsula's 30-storey extension.

They will replace the hotel's existing fleet of eight green Rolls-Royce Silver Spirits.

The Peninsula has been providing Rolls-Royce luxury travel for its guests for more than 20 years, acquiring its first fleet of eight Silver Shadows in 1970.

Since then, the fleet has been renewed four times.

This latest order pushes Rolls-Royce sales in Hongkong to their highest level.

To the end of May, sales in Hongkong were up 50 per cent on the same period last year.
