I refer to the report headlined 'Disease threat to World Cup' (Sunday Morning Post, May 5), regarding the foot-and-mouth disease outbreak in South Korea.
A picture accompanying the story showed Korean quarantine officers throwing live piglets into a hole before burying them alive.
How can anyone be so cruel and bury these lovable piglets alive? It is such a shameful and despicable act. If, for whatever reason, these animals had to be destroyed it should have been done in a dignified way.
Do Koreans have no feeling and respect for animals at all? If South Korea wants to be seen as a respectable member of the international community it must earn that privilege and behave accordingly. And that means respect not just for money and commercial prestige but for animal rights as well.
Every animal-loving tourist and football fan should boycott Korea and instead go to Japan until they clean up their act and behave in a civilised manner.
