On wild mammals in Hong Kong, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department has found on record some 50 species, including bats, civet cats, mongooses, rodents and other larger mammals such as barking deer (also known as Reeves's muntjac), Chinese ferret badger, Chinese leopard cat, Chinese pangolin, macaques, porcupine and wild boar. Most of them are found inside country parks. Chinese white dolphin and finless porpoise are also found within Hong Kong waters.

More information on the wild fauna in Hong Kong can be found on our Web site (www.afcd.gov.hk/connew/ homepage.htm).

This department is currently studying the problem of stray dogs in Shing Mun Country Park in order to increase the effectiveness of dog control in the park.

Finally, if Mr Gimson or any member of the public has encountered interesting sightings of wild mammals, they are welcome to inform us with details by e-mail to [email protected] or by phoning 2150 6990.
