Legco focus on reforms

THERE were more Legislative Council motion debates on political development than any other subject during the just-ended session.

Of a total of 46 debates, nine were on political subjects.

They included attempts to support Governor Chris Patten's proposals on an election committee composed of elected district board members, and a call for general backing at the beginning of the Sino-British row over his political package.

Frederick Fung Kin-kee, from Meeting Point, said he hoped there would be more debates on people's everyday lives in the next session.
