Cruel treatment of piglets bad for tourism

I refer to the letter by Otto Weber headlined 'Burying piglets alive a despicable act' (Sunday Morning Post, May 12).

I agree with Mr Weber. How can anyone be so cruel? When I saw the photograph from South Korea in your paper on May 5 of hundreds of piglets being dumped off the back of a truck into a pit to be buried alive, I could not even bring myself to read past the caption.

Mr Weber wrote that if the animals had to be destroyed (because of an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease), could it not be done in a dignified way. Never mind dignified, what about humane?

I watched a TV news report from Korea two weeks ago about a dog lovers' association putting on a show to try to counter Koreans' reputation as dog eaters. The association was encouraging tourists to visit the country. Nice try, but Korea, you have a long way to go before I (or my friends) will consider spending our tourist dollars in your country.
