Bank robberies swell crime figures

The number of crimes rose by 1.7 per cent, to 24,000, in the first four months of this year compared with the same period last year. Bank robberies rose from five to 13 cases, while armed robberies rose from 15 to 20 cases, the Fight Crime Committee said. Murders were also up by a quarter.
