A Hong Kong-born woman, her Taiwanese husband and their eight-year-old daughter were missing feared dead last night in the China Airlines disaster.
The woman's distraught uncle said the young family had been returning to Hong Kong on an emergency visit to her father, who has a deteriorating heart condition.
Hong Kong-born Liang Wang-wen, her Taiwanese husband, Shih Pai-hung - both in their 30s - and their daughter, Shih Peng-yu, were among the victims of the tragedy. Speaking at Chek Lap Kok last night, Liang's uncle said: 'Whatever they do to compensate, I've lost her and lost her forever.'
He said his niece and her husband were educated in Taiwan and worked there. Relatives from both sides of the family were resident in Hong Kong.
The family regularly returned to Hong Kong to visit their parents. Shih's mother, who also lives in Hong Kong, was at Chek Lap Kok last night but was too upset to speak.
Liang had intended to come back to Hong Kong in August to visit her father but his condition had deteriorated and the family decided to travel back early. The uncle said: 'My brother's situation got worse recently, she is a very good daughter and decided to come back early to see her father.'
