Vietnam's TMA Solutions has beaten competitors in India to land a high-end outsourcing contract from a United States technology company.
The decision by San Francisco-based Critical Path to use a Vietnamese company for work in a field until now dominated by Indian firms will be a major boost for Vietnam's growing information technology (IT) outsourcing industry.
Critical Path will outsource application development to TMA Solutions, a locally run software company with 100 programmers based in Ho Chi Minh City.
TMA Solutions will work on Critical Path's communications platform software that is sold to Internet service providers, telecommunications firms, wireless carriers and postal authorities in the US and Europe.
It will add new services to Critical Path's existing calendar server and extend the server so that services can be accessed from a mobile device using wireless application protocol.
In addition, the server will be ported from Solaris to Windows 2000.
