THE August heat brings with it a surfeit of British art to visit in air-conditioned comfort.
Along with Peter Blake's touring Alphabet exhibition, the Arts Centre is mounting Cries and Whispers, an exhibition of British painting in the '80s.
There has been a resurgence of painting over the past decade following the more conceptual art and theoretical obsessions of the '70s. These reflect a growing interest in figurative art and a greater emotional freedom.
Many of the pictures illustrate the influence of older British artists such as Francis Bacon and Lucien Freud.
Some of the artists featured - including Paula Rego, Lisa Milroy and Christopher le Brun - have begun to win international acclaim. Others are emerging, but by the evidence of the exhibition are sure to make an impact.
Cries and Whispers is at the Pao Galleries, 5/F Hongkong Arts Centre between August 6 and 22.
